How we work with you

Let’s make every project enjoyable

We appreciate you may be under pressure, dealing with high expectations and fast-approaching deadlines. We’ll do everything we can to make it easy to work with us.

Here’s a typical way that companies engage with us.

1: Contact
You get in touch. Our web form is ideal – or reach out to our lead copywriter, Steve Fountain, via LinkedIn.
We can fix up a call to talk properly.

2: Discovery call
We’ll discuss your project. You may also wish to send us some files or examples.
In particular, we’ll want to know about:
– The target audience and your goals.
– Where the source information will come from (for example, will you have a written brief, product details, a slide deck, rough notes, or will we need to interview one of your team?).
– Your deadline.

We can also talk about:
– Our experience in this area.
– Any ideas or questions that spring to mind.
– Our availability and when we could start.

3: Cost estimate
We’ll send you a quote for the project, usually the same day.
Typically, the estimate will also include one round of amendments (if needed).
We can also suggest project delivery timescales if that helps you.

We estimate projects based on an hourly rate. We’ll stick with the price agreed, unless the project changes along the way (eg. extra web pages, new information or extra rounds of edits). If this happens, we’ll discuss this with you and agree to some extra time that feels fair.

4: Approval
If you accept the estimate, we don’t ask for money up front (unlike some copywriters).
We don’t need a PO number before getting started (just send one when it’s convenient for you).
Send over any terms and conditions you’d like us to sign, as well as a non-disclosure agreement (NDA) if you require one.

Our own terms and conditions are very simple. For example, we appreciate payment within 30 days of sending you our invoice. This is usually at the end of project. However, if a project extends beyond 3-4 weeks, then we’d want to send you a partial invoice (work to date) at the end of each calendar month.

5: Copywriting
Send us any files and links that may be helpful. If you’ve got a company writing style guide, pop this over too.
Then we’ll fix up a call with you and/or your colleagues for any follow-up questions. If you’re looking for ideas, we may explore early ideas with you at this stage.
We’ll begin the writing process, aiming for your first draft deadline.

Making sure we’re aligned is really important. With new clients, we recommend a step-by-step approach, so you feel confident in us. For example, if we’re writing a blog or guide, we can send you an outline first to check over before we write anything. If it’s a website, we can write a couple of pages first for you – so you can check it’s the correct style and tone. There’s no extra charge for this approach.

6: Sign-off
Often, our text hits the mark, first time around. But some changes are normal.
You can send over changes/comments in Word via email – and we’ll aim to get them sorted quickly. But we can fix up a call to review the copy if that’s easier for you.

Sometimes, marketing professionals and agencies have to tread carefully around creative types. Not with us – we’re not precious about our work. We understand business and how companies operate. We’re happy to revise, retune and refine the text for whatever reason. We’ll give sound advice. But you’re the one who decides what works and what doesn’t.

That’s it. Job done! What about working on other projects?
It’s always a pleasure to work regularly with the same clients on projects over time. We’ll start to understand each other clearly, which makes briefing and writing much easier. You’ll find us to be friendly, patient, courteous, helpful, and completely trustworthy.
